1. The actuators have no power

  1. Has PALRO been walking or dancing for a long time?
    • When the actuators overheat, they lose power for safety reasons. Please wait until they cool down.
    • When the temperature drops, the actuators will automatically start operating.
  2. Are you lifting PALRO up or laying it down?
    • For safety, all actuators except the neck relax to prevent your fingers getting caught.
    • If you place PALRO in the relaxed position and stabilize its posture, the actuators will automatically start operating.
  3. Certain actuators have no power
    • Certain actuators may have deteriorated or be damaged.
    • If loss of power is seen in specific actuators all the time, those actuators have deteriorated or are damaged. The actuators must be replaced.
    • Even if only a single actuator is deteriorated or damaged, it may affect the movement of multiple actuators.
    • Say to PALRO, "Do a self-checkup", and get it to carry out a self-checkup.

2. PALRO doesn't stand up

  1. Is PALRO's relaxed position an awkward posture?
    • For safety, PALRO will not stand up if the soles of its feet are not touching the floor, or either its left or right leg is stretched out. Place PALRO in the correct relaxed position.

3. PALRO falls and cannot walk, or can only walk a few steps

  • The number of steps taken differs depending on PALRO's condition and those of its surroundings.
  1. Are there any obstacles?
    • For safety, PALRO stops walking when it finds an obstacle or step in its path. The distance at which PALRO stops before the obstacle differs depending on its condition, but it is approximately 30 cm.
  2. Are you trying to make PALRO walk on an uneven surface?
    • The floor may be too uneven for PALRO to walk on.
    • Try to make it walk in as flat a place as possible.
  3. PALRO's posture may not be correct.
    • The floor surface may not be suitable for PALRO to walk on.
    • Try to make it walk on as stable a surface as possible.
  4. Are you trying to make PALRO walk on a soft or unstable surface?
    • PALRO's center of gravity may have shifted through wear to the actuators and exterior parts.
    • Refer to "8-7 Adjust PALRO's posture" of the User Manual to adjust its posture.
    • PALRO's posture can be adjusted by [Adjustment of posture] under [Tuning] on PALROF wappar.
  5. Are there any abnormalities in the actuators?
    • Certain actuators may have deteriorated or be damaged.
    • Say to PALRO, "Do a self-checkup", and get it to carry out a self-checkup.
  6. Is there a failure in any of the sensors?
    • There may be a failure in a sensor.
    • Say to PALRO, "Do a self-checkup", and get it to carry out a self-checkup.

4. PALRO hits obstacles or falls from high places when it walks

  1. PALRO's ability to detect obstacles is not perfect.
    • Especially when the obstacle is small or is at an oblique angle to PALRO, it may not be detectable. Please be very careful of surrounding obstacles, unevenness of the floor, and the possibility of falls when making PALRO walk.
  2. Does PALRO keep failing at the same place?
    • Even in an environment that looks perfect, there are some places where PALRO cannot detect all the obstacles or where it cannot cope very well. If PALRO repeatedly fails at the same place, that place should be avoided.
  3. Is there a failure in the obstacle detection system?
    • When PALRO walks, it detects obstacles using an ultrasonic sensor, camera, balance sensor, cliff sensor and toe sensor. If you feel there may be a failure, say to PALRO, "Do a self-checkup" and get it to carry out a self-checkup.。

5. PALRO suddenly stopped during a movement

  1. The battery may be low
    • When the battery is low, it sits down on the spot and doesn't move. Charge the battery promptly.
  2. Has PALRO been walking or dancing for a long time?
    • When the actuators overheat, the movement stops for safety reasons. Please wait until they cool down. When the temperature drops, it will automatically start moving.
  3. Are you lifting PALRO up or laying it down?
    • For safety, all actuators except the neck relax to prevent your fingers getting caught.
    • If you place PALRO in the relaxed position and stabilize its posture, it will automatically start moving.
  4. Did you touch PALRO's head?
    • When you touch PALRO's head, PALRO stops moving.

6. PALRO's arms and legs are shaking

  1. Is this a recently purchased PALRO?
    • The gears within the actuators may not have bedded in yet. The gears will bed in after a while, and the symptoms will subside.
  2. Does this always occur? And is the shaking increasing gradually?
    • It may be time to replace the actuators.

7. PALRO is making an abnormal noise

  1. Does the abnormal noise come from an actuator when it moves?
    • If an actuator does not operate or does not operate normally, that actuator has deteriorated or is damaged.
    • The actuators must be replaced.
  2. Is there a buzzing sound coming from the actuators when PALRO is standing?
    • This is the sound of force being applied in order to maintain its posture. It is not a failure.
  3. Is there a banging and scraping sound coming from inside PALRO's back?
    • The cooling fan may be broken. In this case, a repair is necessary.
  4. Is the sound coming from certain actuators?
    • There may be pressure being applied to one place. Lift it up, and place it in the correct relaxed position.

8. PALRO says, " I'm a little tired. Please let me rest for a while." However, it does not recover even after a while, or it keeps showing the same symptoms

  1. Do you let PALRO have enough rest?
    • The reason PALRO needs a rest is for the actuators to cool down when they heat up from walking or dancing. Generally, it takes about 10 minutes for it to cool down, but it may take longer depending on environmental factors such as the ambient temperature and size of the room. In this case, change the place or turn it off and let it cool thoroughly.
  2. Are there any abnormalities how the actuators are operating?
    • Certain actuators may have deteriorated or be damaged. Say to PALRO, "Do a self-checkup", and get it to carry out a self-checkup.
  3. PALRO's posture may not be correct.
    • PALRO's center of gravity may have shifted through wear to the actuators and exterior parts. This is not a failure. Adjust its posture.
    • PALRO's posture can be adjusted using [Adjustment of posture] under [Tuning] on PALRO Fwappar.

9. PALRO stops / falls in the middle of a dance

  1. PALRO's posture may be misaligned.
    • PALRO's center of gravity may have shifted through wear to the actuators and exterior parts. This is not a failure. Adjust its posture.
    • PALRO's posture can be adjusted using [Adjustment of posture] under [Tuning] on PALRO Fwappar.
  2. Are you trying to operate PALRO on an uneven or unstable surface?
    • Make it dance on a stable surface without any bumps.
  3. Are there any abnormalities in the actuators?
    • Actuators may have deteriorated or be damaged.
    • When abnormal operation is seen only in certain actuators, those actuators have deteriorated or are damaged.
    • The actuators must be replaced.
  4. There may have been a problem in PALRO's posture before it started to dance.
    • When PALRO dances, it checks the condition of the floor and modifies its posture. However, modification can not be carried out correctly when it is out of the permissible range. Place it in the correct relaxed position and try again.
  5. Did you touch PALRO while it was dancing?
    • PALRO constantly uses its posture stabilizing function to prevent itself from falling, but this function is weakened while it is dancing. This is in order to prioritize the dancing movements. Do not touch PALRO while it is dancing, because this may amplify the vibrations, causing it to lose balance and fall.
  6. Are the silicon pads on the back of PALRO's feet intact?
    • PALRO loses balance when the silicon pads come off.
